Melbourne Cup

The Emirates Melbourne Cup is held on the first Tuesday of November at Flemington racetrack and is the most important race on the Australian horse racing calander. It is often referred to as "The Race That Stops A Nation".

The race is run over a 3200 metres and it is the longest race on offer at Melbourne's Spring racing carnival. The race has been run since 1861.

The 2011 Melbourne Cup will be run on Tuesday, November 1, 2011.
