Captain Sonador on trial for Cox Plate
There's a few hurdles to overcome but trainer Roger Milne isn't running scared of a possible Cox Plate clash between Captain Sonador and his long-time rival Shoot Out.
Captain Sonador will make his comeback in Saturday's Coca-Cola Amatil Handicap (1200m) at Eagle Farm after undergoing surgery to both front knees following his sixth in the Group One Rosehill Guineas (2000m) in March.

Waltz could be facing last Sydney dance
Ambers Waltz will put her Princess Series credentials on the line in the Furious Stakes at Randwick on Saturday.
Delivering an early spring ultimatum to the filly, trainer John O'Shea says Ambers Waltz might head to Melbourne sooner than planned if she can't match the brilliance of the Darley-owned Parables in the Group Two race.
"If they look a bit hot here, which they may well be because there loo...

Chris Waller finally claimed Wyong Gold Cup success when Hawk Island led home a one-two finish for the in-form Sydney trainer.
Waller saddled up the two favourites in the $120,000 Listed feature and it was Hawk Island ($4) who raced clear of his more fancied stablemate and race favourite Snow Alert ($2.80) to win the 2100m event by 1-3/4 lengths.

Freedman, Dunn review stable deal
Lee Freedman's arrangement with stable rider Dwayne Dunn has been varied to provide more flexibility for both parties.
Freedman said Dunn was still the number one stable jockey but he had the opportunity to take outside rides from time to time.
Notably, Dunn will ride the Pat Hyland first starter Kya instead of either of Freedman's two runners in the Voodoo Plate (1100m) at Flemington on Saturday.

Versatility the key to Makybe repeat
Danny O'Brien is buoyant about the prospects of Vigor making it back-to-back Makybe Diva Stakes wins even though the Caulfield Cup placegetter won't be as fit as he was 12 months ago.
The O'Reilly six-year-old goes into the Group Two 1600m feature at Flemington on Saturday second-up, as he did last year when he scored by a nose from Typhoon Tracy on a good track.
"He's in great shape," O'Brien said....

Metal Bender, Theseo to run quinella
Hugh Bowman expects his mount Metal Bender and middle distance star Theseo to justify their positions at the top of Chelmsford Stakes betting by dominating the weight-for-age race at Randwick on Saturday.
"I think those two horses standout to me and probably should to everyone else," Bowman, who will be reunited with Metal Bender, said.

Rebel Raider makes his first appearance at Flemington since his longshot Victoria Derby win nearly two years ago and trainer Leon Macdonald is expecting a forward showing from him on Saturday.
Macdonald admitted he was surprised the Reset five-year-old was able to win first-up in the Group Three Spring Stakes (1200m) at Morphettville last month and expressed a slight concern about him at 1600m agai...

Let's Elope guide for Silent Surround
Trainer Bill Smart hopes the Group Two Let's Elope Stakes will help clarify Caulfield Cup and Cox Plate plans for promising stayer Silent Surround.
"I think Saturday at Flemington will tell us a bit," Oakbank-based Smart said.
"I have got her nominated for the Cox Plate and Caulfield Cup but I am not sure of the path to take.
"I am sure she will stay nicely if we can get her to relax."

Patience the key to Smith's filly
Trying to match the brilliance of the Darley-owned Parables at Randwick on Saturday isn't on the spring radar for fellow Warwick Farm-trained filly Slow The Flow.
Instead, trainer Matthew Smith is looking for a premium result much deeper into the Sydney carnival than the Group Two Furious Stakes.
The Peter Snowden-trained Parables claimed early spring bragging rights among Sydney's three-year-old fi...
