Waltz could be facing last Sydney dance

Ambers Waltz will put her Princess Series credentials on the line in the Furious Stakes at Randwick on Saturday.

Delivering an early spring ultimatum to the filly, trainer John O'Shea says Ambers Waltz might head to Melbourne sooner than planned if she can't match the brilliance of the Darley-owned Parables in the Group Two race.

"If they look a bit hot here, which they may well be because there looks to be some very good fillies amongst them, we might decide that going down to Melbourne and taking on the Victorian fillies is a safer option for her," O'Shea said.

O'Shea expects Ambers Waltz to appreciate stretching out to 1400 metres in the Furious after finishing seventh in the Silver Shadow Stakes over 1200m when first-up on August 21.

The filly was beaten 3-1/4 lengths behind the exciting Parables, who is favourite for Saturday's race - the second leg of the Princess Series.

The Group Two Tea Rose Stakes (1500m) and Group One Flight Stakes (1600m) complete the four-race series for three-year-old fillies.

Ambers Waltz's Silver Shadow result was the first time in her six career starts that she had finished worse than second.

As a two-year-old the daughter of Danehill Dancer won on debut at Rosehill in December before a string of runner-up performances including the Magic Millions Classic, the Silver Slipper Stakes and the Sweet Embrace Stakes.

O'Shea said the filly's first-up run had merit despite the outcome.

"I thought she was good, she just sort of lost sight of the bunny going to the half mile (800m)," he said.

"Obviously they ran along a bit and she just sort of got a little interfered with.

"I would be inclined to think she can run a bit better and most importantly she's getting out to seven furlongs (1400m).

"We'd just like to see her just jump well and be a bit more positive in the run."

Blake Shinn rode Ambers Waltz in her return at Warwick Farm but Corey Brown jumps back aboard in the Furious after missing the Warwick Farm meeting because he was on holidays.
