Three-time Grp 1 winner Ortensia is back in work and on target for a first up crack at the Black Caviar Lightning (1000m) on February 16 at Flemington.

Trainer Paul Messara said the seven-year-old daughter of Testa Rossa was doing well with a return trip to Dubai to defend her Al Quoz Sprint title on 30 March still a real possibility.

"She's back in work and going well at this stage," Messara said. "She'll hopefully be ready to trial around mid January ahead of a first up run in the Lightning Stakes...She could go to Dubai again but we'll just take it one run at a time."

Last year's Group 1 Al Quoz Sprint triumph was the start of an unforgettable overseas campaign for Messara when Ortensia stormed home from last to provide jockey Craig Williams with yet another international victory.

Ortensia then travelled to the UK where she won the Group 2 King George Stakes (1005m) at Goodwood and Group 1 Nunthorpe Stakes (1005m) at York taking her career record to 13 wins from 35 starts and over $2.4 million in prize money. (racingvictoria.net.au)
