QUEENSLAND'S big wet may be a grave concern to Magic Millions officials six days out from the state's richest race day, but not so for Caulfield trainer Tony Vasil and his three-year-old colt Intencion, reports The Age.

It says: The Commands colt narrowly failed to secure a guaranteed run in this Saturday's $1 million Magic Millions Guineas on the Gold Coast when beaten a head at Randwick last Saturday but he could gain a reprieve and sneak into the final field if the rain continues to fall in Queensland as is expected.

''There has been a lot of rain up there and that might be our last chance of sneaking into the field,'' Vasil's assistant trainer Trent Pennuto said yesterday. ''A wet track might mean a few of them won't pay up and he could just scrape in.''

Intencion was last night marked the $7 second favourite with TAB Sportsbet behind Gerald Ryan's classy Snitzel colt Top Drop for the Guineas, despite the doubt over his place in the field. Final acceptances are taken for the race and the $2 million Magic Millions Classic for two-year-olds at 9am on Wednesday.

Pennuto said that further storms forecast this week for southern Queensland not only meant Intencion might grab a late spot in the field, but a wet surface would not harm the chances of the colt. ''It won't concern him a bit.''

Unbeaten Queanbeyan filly Karuta Queen is the $3.40 favourite for the $2 million Classic following her 21-length trial win at home last month in front of unbeaten Brisbane colt Pepper Jet ($5.50). (www.theage.com.au)
