With day one of the famous five-day Royal Ascot meeting just 24-hours away, the ground looks like being firm, which suits the raiders better than the locals.

John Messara’s Arrowfield Stud’s Animal Kingdom, a raging 8-11 favourite for the opening race, the Group 1 Queen Anne Stakes, wants the ground faster than it is.

Overnight on racingpost.com Graham Motion said his biggest concern going into the race was the ground.

"If we were running at Gulfstream or Belmont I would feel very confident.

"As it is I do feel confident but I think there are a lot of unknowns going into this including the going,” Motion said.

"I think he will handle almost anything. I did speak with Chris [Stickels, racecourse Manager] this morning and he feels that we should have good going on Tuesday unless we get any rain that we are not expecting,” he added.

"I would rather see him run on firm ground - I would feel more comfortable with it - but I do think he would handle softish ground.

"He worked on it fine the day we took him to Ascot."
