WITH his win on Melting Moment in Sportius Global Events Handicap at Sportingbet Park, Damian Lane took outright first place on the Victorian State premiership.

Lane, staring at a career season, has ridden 61 winners in Victoria this season, including 19 in the metropolitan area.

After booting home a century of winners the past two seasons, the 20-year-old is on track to post his best ever numbers.

Last season, Lane rode 105 winners, but with more than half the 2014-15 season remaining, he’s positioned to eclipse that mark.

“I’m very happy with the way things are going, let’s hope they can continue,” Lane said.

“Working hard through last season is paying off. Trainers are rewarding me with good rides and I’m rewarding them by getting winners.

“My riding is always improving, but there’s still a lot of room for improvement.”

Lane said he’d set himself a goal each season of bettering his previous season’s results.

Last season, Lane rode 20 city winners, a mark that he’s on the doorstep of bettering.

“Obviously, I want to ride a Group 1 winner, just as every jockey does. This season I want to establish myself in the top five city riders and hopefully be somewhere near the top of the table for winners in the State as well,” he said. (Racing Network)
