Mega Champion is in a rich vein of form and again looks the one to beat in the Carbine Club Cup (1,650m) at Happy Valley tonight.

The colt took his time getting his act together, but a switch to the Tony Cruz stable early last season saw him turn around some moderate efforts to win three races for the term. He has shown in two starts recently that it isn't over yet.

An excellent second to Dragon Fighter was followed with a tradesmanlike win 14 days ago over this course, and Mega Champion has yet to finish out of the top two at the Valley extended mile in four attempts. The four-year-old has again been blessed with a nice low draw, which should allow all the tactical advantages for Andreas Suborics - replacing winning last-start rider Brett Prebble, who goes on to Medallist.

Suborics has been doing a bit of Cruz's riding, with seven mounts and several placings this term, but Mega Champion gives him the chance to turn up with a winner for the stable. There looks to be a spread of dangers, but horses like Withinmyheart (Vincent Ho Chak-yiu), Good Luck Win (Alex Lai Hoi-wing), Pegasus Supreme (Alvin Ng Ka-chun) and Forgive And Forget (Eddy Lai Wai-ming) look the main contenders.
