Ballarat trainer Darren Weir is genuinely excited about his big grey flash Puissance De Lune resuming in Saturday’s Group 2 $220,000 P. B. Lawrence Stakes (1400m) at Caulfield. “I can’t wait,” he told TVN this week.

Puissance De Lune has been the clear favourite for this year’s Melbourne Cup since he won the Queen Elizabeth Stakes last Spring by five lengths.

Glen Boss has been talking him up and Weir knows he’s going to get a lot of press with this horse as the Spring gets closer.

“The horse is in great order.

"There’s loads of improvement in him but he’s got lots of miles in him,” Weir said.

When quizzed about his expectations, Weir said he was simply hoping the horse would run on well.

“I’ll be happy if he’s finishing off, that’s the plan,” he said.

In early markets for the Lawrence Stakes, Puissance De Lune is marked a hot $2.25 favourite.
