The amazing run continues for the PPD Club’s master-blaster  Brian Blackwell – he nabbed another big-race winner on Sunday and this time it was PELICANO 1st $7.50 in the Werribee Cup. That winning tip added to a glorious streak of big-race winners for BB this season – including the winners of the Caulfield and Melbourne Cups! Here’s exactly what BB advised our members about Pelicano (and he named 3rd placer Unchain My Heart as the danger runner).

A year after his 5th in the same race, (2) Pelicano 9/2 gets his chance again in race 6, the Werribee Cup 2600m (Listed) at Werribee on Sunday. The 5YO finished 5th/6, btn 1.7 lens, in last year’s Cup (behind the swooping backmarker Unusual Suspect) and the formguide states he raced ‘flat’ though I think he probably would have appreciated racing a bit wider on the track instead of being snookered on the inside. He went to the line well enough in what turned out to be something of a sharp sprint home from the turn. At his latest start, Pelicano ran 2nd/16 to The Offer in the 2200m Ballarat Cup (Listed) on Nov 24 and three starts back he won the Murray Bridge Cup 1600m (Listed) on Oct 16. He’s a versatile galloper who rarely runs a bad race. The proven stayer in today’s field is the David Hayes trained (5) Unchain My Heart 13/4, a winner up to 3200m at Listed level. The 7YO mare ran 4th/13 to Electric Fusion at Caulfield 2000m on Nov 30, btn only 2.3 lens. She’ll be hard to beat here, especially on the receiving end of 5kgs from Pelicano.
