David Vandyke believes Ike's Legacy has the ability to compete in the Group 1 Golden Rose Stakes during the spring carnival following his impressive debut win at Warwick Farm, reports Racing Network.

The heavily backed favourite appeared to be struggling in the heavy conditions but still managed to kick clear in the straight and hold off the fast finishing Stiff Thunder to record a half length win.

"I turned away from the television before the turn and was disappointed at myself for running him on this track," Vandyke said.

"But his class proved in the end, he was able to pick himself up despite struggling in the ground and won well.

"That to me proves he has a bright future."

Ike's Legacy, out of Group 1 winning mare Ike's Dream, was heavily backed from $2 to $1.80 on course, after as much as $2.40 was bet yesterday.

"He will go out for a spell now and we will bring him back for the Golden Rose," Vandyke said.

The Golden Rose is a $1 million race for three-year-olds run at Rosehill Gardens on September 14.
