Grant Allard, the former strapper of brilliant galloper Lohnro, is used to grooming champions.

The 32-year-old Gosford-based trainer is confident he has another rising star under his care in the shape of stable apprentice Jake Hull.

The fledgling four kilogram claiming apprentice partners free running gelding Jomidale for his master in the Titan Warehouse Pty Ltd Benchmark 65 Handicap (1350m) at Cessnock on Tuesday.

The pair combined last start to score a one length win over 1280m at Muswellbrook on January 4, giving 16-year-old Hull the third win of his career in less than 20 rides.

Allard, who worked with John Hawks for eight years before taking out a trainer's licence in July last year, believes the Gosford youngster has a huge future.

"Jake has come a long way quickly," Allard said.

"He's at the stables 24-7, loves it.

"If ever a kid was going to make it, it's him.

"His dad Mark Hull was a jockey, he's a cousin of Josh Parr and Ben Hull who rides on the Gold Coast and my stable foreman Danny Langridge, who was a jockey and rode Bentley Biscuit.

"His racing pedigree is from good stock and he's a great kid, willing to listen, learn and use his brain.

"I've kept him on Jomidale because he rode the horse a treat last start, rides him work and knows the horse.

"Jomidale's trained on really well. I'm very happy with him.

"He made improvement from his first up run and has continued to make further improvement. There's plenty of potential there."

Allard got Jomidale two starts back when former trainer Kevin Miller accepted a position as head pre-trainer for Gooree Stud.

"Kevin was nice enough to recommended me to the owners, Richard Townsend and a couple of his cousins," Allard said.

"First up at Nowra (fifth to Royal Impulse on December 11) he hit the front at the 200 metres but fitness found him out the last bit.

"He made subsequent improvement and raced accordingly at Muswellbrook.

"He's still green and learning his trade. He's a horse with a high cruising speed and I think he'll get over further. A nice horse doing the job."

Under Miller, Jomidale, who has won two from three at the track and distance, scored at 100-1 on December 16.

"We won't be getting that sort of price tomorrow," Allard said.

"But I'll just take a win.

"It's a small field, Jomidale gets in well at the weights (50.5kg) and I expect him to run very well."
