Dominant Hong Kong Derby winner Collection could be set for this year's Cox Plate at Moonee Valley.

Trainer John Moore raised the prospect of the exciting four-year-old guesting at the spring carnival, after his 1-1/2 length Derby victory at Sha Tin on Sunday.

"He is definitely the sort of horse for a Cox Plate," Moore said on Melbourne radio station Sport 927.

"I will be speaking to the (ownership) syndicate in due course with respect to bringing him down."

Moore flagged the possibility of at least two Melbourne starts for the Peintre Celebre gelding on the way to Moonee Valley, suggesting a 1400m run then "the Yalumba or something like that".

In the meantime, Collection is being set for two of Hong Kong's glamour Group One events, the April 26 Champions Mile and the May 29 Champions and Chater Cup over 2400m, where he is likely to clash with star stablemate Viva Pataca.

Moore said after those assignments he would "sit down with syndicate managers and see if the Cox Plate can be added to his program".

Moore described Darren Beadman's effort on Collection in Sunday's Hong Kong Derby as the "ride of a lifetime".

He likened Beadman's effort to those produced by his father, George Moore, as he established himself as a legend of the Australian turf.

"Dad used to do that, take a race by the scruff of the neck and Darren has produced a George Moore ride here today," he told the South China Morning Post.

Beadman set Collection alight to counter a mid-race move by Thumbs Up's rider Christophe Soumillon after ordinary early pace.

"The pace was very muddling and I had to play the cards that were dealt to me, but I had great confidence in the horse," Beadman said.

"I've probably enjoyed this win more than most of even the big races I've won - John worked very hard to get me back here riding, I owe him a great deal and to win the Derby for him - to Hong Kong people it's such a prestigious race - is just such a great thrill."

Collection has won two of three Hong Kong starts for Moore - over 1800 and 2000 metres - since being imported from the UK where Kerrin McEvoy rode him to three-year-old victories at York and Ascot.
