Danny Beau has set up a clash with sprinting giants Takeover Target and Apache Cat with his record-breaking win in the Group Three Colonel Reeves at Ascot.

In recording his sixth win from six starts at Perth's premier track on Saturday, Danny Beau clocked 1:08.00 to smash the previous record of 1:08.29 held by his half sister, champion sprinter Miss Andretti.

Vain Raider was the well supported $3.50 favourite and began well from his wide barrier to cross Danny Beau and take up the running.

But as the field turned for home, Vain Raider was under heavy pressure and quickly claimed by Danny Beau who cruised to the lead and went on to record a comprehensive victory under Jason Whiting.

Danny Beau will now head to the $400,000 Group Two Winterbottom Stakes (2400m) on November 29 against Takeover Target and Apache Cat who tuned up for the assignment with an exhibition gallop between races at Ascot.

"This horse is going super. He has really come back a lot more relaxed horse and we are now seeing the benefits of that," Whiting told perthracing.com.au.

If he can win the Winterbottom, Danny Beau will receive an invitation to the KrisFlyer Sprint in Singapore, a race won by Takeover Target earlier this year.

Miss Andretti won the Winterbottom Stakes in 2005 and the following year was transferred to Lee Freedman to race in Melbourne.

In the autumn of 2007 she won three Group One sprints in Melbourne then travelled to England where she claimed the Group Two King's Stand at Royal Ascot.
