Dreamscape capped off a memorable day for trainer Gai Waterhouse at Warwick Farm on Saturday with victory in the Group Three Liverpool City Cup.

Dreamscape's win brought up a feature race treble for the trainer following victories by Theseo in the Group One Chipping Norton Stakes (1600m) and More Joyous in the Group Two Surround Stakes (1400m).

Dreamscape ($4.80) was a pick-up ride for Queenslander Stathi Katsidis who obtained the mount when it was thought Blake Shinn would be in Melbourne to ride Manhattan Rain in the Australian Guineas.

However, after two lacklustre runs in the Royal Sovereign and Hobartville Stakes Manhattan Rain was retired to stand at Arrowfield Stud.

That decision freed Shinn to ride at Warwick Farm but Waterhouse kept Katsidis on Dreamscape and he repaid her faith with a winning ride.

Dreamscape led in the 1300m contest and held off fast-finishing Group One winner Triple Honour ($12) by a half-length with another Group One winner Mr Baritone ($12) a neck away third.

The victory not only gave Dreamscape his third stakes success but it also earned him an exemption from any ballot for the Group One Doncaster Mile (1600m) at Randwick on April 17.

"He had improved a lot from his first-up run, Gai was very happy with him and his work had been strong," stable representative Tania Rouse said.

"Gai said to be positive and that's what Stathi was.

"He's a big horse and a little bit of racing under his belt is only going to improve him."

Dreamscape went into the Liverpool City Cup off the back of a close second to Kenny's World in the Group Three Southern Cross Stakes (1200m) first-up at Randwick.

Katsidis was delighted to have picked up the winning ride and said the four-year-old showed his toughness to score.

"This was his race today," Katsidis said.

"It was a really good run from him first-up the other day. I was able to give him a soft couple of furlongs and I held on to him for as long as I could in the straight before I let him go.

"I had enough left in reserve to hold them off and it was a tough win."
