Scouting Wide continues to please Tim Martin with the trainer declaring him a definite starter in the Group Three Summer Cup at Randwick.

Martin has been keeping a close eye on the Zabeel gelding since his gutsy frontrunning win in the Listed Christmas Cup over Saturday's distance of 2400 metres on December 12.

"It was such a tough effort the other day that I wasn't sure whether to run him in this race," Martin said.

"But he's done so well and continues to do so well that he will definitely run Saturday."

Scouting Wide will be striving to emulate the feat of the Gerald Ryan-trained Ready To Lift who claimed the Christmas-Summer Cup double last year.

Before the Christmas Cup, Martin announced the five-year-old would be ridden more forward than when he finished second to Star Ripper at his previous start.

But many were surprised when he strode to a big lead with jockey Tye Angland making the race a true staying test.

"He's very one-paced and it was very satisfying and pleasing more than surprising that he led all the way," Martin said.

"He's suited to frontrunning, that's his go."

The Rosehill trainer is looking for his second Summer Cup after winning the race five years ago with This Manshood.

"It's not the strongest Summer Cup I've seen but in saying that it's a tough race to win," Martin said.

There are 14 entries for the feature race including in-form Bart Cummings-trained stayer Zazabeau, Rockwood for Gai Waterhouse and New Zealander Solid Billing.

"Rockwood is the query runner. It's no surprise to see him there though, Gai likes to put the racing into them," Martin said.

Rockwood is backing up after his sixth to Palacio De Cristal in the Group Two Villiers Stakes (1600m) at Randwick last Saturday.

The longest trip Rockwood has won over was 2000 metres in last year's Frank Packer Plate at Randwick.

Waterhouse has won four Summer Cups with her last winner in the race Aqua D'Amore four years ago.

Her others came courtesy of Stoway (2002), Zanetta (1999) and Linesman in 1997.

Martin also rates Rainbow Styling from the Hawkes training partnership as one of the top hopes.

Rainbow Styling easily accounted for his opposition when he defeated Delago Star over 2000 metres at Randwick on Saturday.

"I was very impressed with him and he'll be rock hard fit for this and right in the finish," Martin said.

"It's going to be a tougher race than the Christmas Cup that's for sure."
