James Cummings says his grandfather's renowned sense of timing is a far better guide than the pre-post odds being offered about Swift Judgement at Randwick on Saturday.

Swift Judgement steps out for master trainer Bart Cummings for just the second time in his career as a $41 outsider in the Stan Fox Stakes.

On face value, trying to graduate from a midweek defeat to a Group Two victory might seem like a bridge too far but the younger Cummings has urged caution in ignoring the colt's chances.

"We have an opinion of him ... we have had all the way through," he said.

"There's no doubt we've thrown him in the deep end but he's at a suitable distance (1400m) and he's on a suitable track."

Swift Judgement was on debut when beaten in a close finish by the richly-bred Best Choice in a 1250-metre Canterbury maiden on September 8.

Best Choice is highly rated by trainer Clarry Conners while the third placegetter Mac Chois came out and won at Warwick Farm on Wednesday.

There was enough merit in the run for Cummings to include Swift Judgement among his second lot of pay-ups for the Group One Caulfield Guineas next month.

Swift Judgement's sire God's Own won the 2005 Caulfield Guineas with just four runs to his credit.

Fellow Guineas entry Masquerader is an easy $2.30 favourite in latest Stan Fox betting.

To be ridden by Hong Kong-based Weichong Marwing, Masquerader will be trying to get his spring campaign back on track after finishing unplaced in last month's Golden Rose.

Decision Time, who will be ridden by Melbourne jockey Craig Williams for the first time since finishing second in this year's Golden Slipper, is the $3.20 second favourite to add the Stan Fox to his last-start Heritage Stakes victory.
