Lee Freedman says speedy filly Tariks could target a black-type win over the summer following her return to form with a win in the Cendrillon Handicap at Sandown.

With the 3kg allowance for apprentice Jason Maskiell, Tariks, the only metropolitan winner in the race, carried 56kg, just 1.5kg above the minimum against five rivals which Freedman said was "pretty appealing".

The Rock Of Gibraltar filly ($4.80) gave Maskiell a winning double in the first two races after he scored on Umanugget ($4) for the Peter Moody stable.

Racing with a nose roll off, Tariks began well and worked her way to a narrow lead away from the rail and found plenty under pressure to draw clear and score by a half-length from Pins On Ice ($7).

First starter Varenna Miss ($4 fav), a daughter of Redoute's Choice from the Tony Noonan stable, was the unlucky runner of the race finishing a half-neck away third after racing greenly.

A Flemington 1000m winner as a two-year-old, Tariks also boasts a second to subsequent Caulfield Guineas winner Starspangledbanner over 1000m at Caulfield on August 1.

She also finished runner-up to stablemate Come Hither in the Talindert Stakes (1100m) at Flemington, second to Pergram in the Queen Adelaide Stakes (1000m) at Cheltenham and second to Speedy Natalie in the Dequetteville Stakes (1100m) at Morphettville.

"She's tough and she's pacy and this is probably the first time she'd been back over this trip against fillies for quite a while, she's been taking on the colts," Freedman said.

"She's been honest and consistent, unfortunately we haven't achieved a Listed win with her but she's placed at that level three times and, who knows, we might find a race over the summer where we can get some bold black type."
