A full brother to five-time Group One winner Racing To Win has fetched $2 million on the opening day of the Magic Millions Yearling sales on the Gold Coast.

By Encosta De Lago out of Surrealist, the colt was purchased by leading Sydney trainer Gai Waterhouse.

The $2 million buy came 15 minutes after Waterhouse bought a Redoute's Choice-Strawberry Girl colt for $1 million.

He is a three-quarter brother to proven New Zealand based sire and Group Two winner Danroad,

Coolmore Australia's general manager Michael Kirwan was delighted with the price reached by their Encosta De Lago colt and was also pleased to see him go to Waterhouse.

"He was the standout colt of the sale, a really athletic horse that deserved the attention he was given. It's an outstanding price at any time but it is significant in this climate," Kirwan said.

"Gai has been a tremendous supporter of Coolmore. All her best horses have been by Coolmore stallions, Grand Armee, Desert War, Aqua D'Amore, Tempest Morn, Ha Ha, Bentley Biscuit and now Northern Meteor. Hopefully this fellow is her next superstar."

Waterhouse is looking forward to working with the colt.

"His full brother is a champion and he has the pedigree of a stallion," Waterhouse said.

"I had a number of people approach me at the sale and tell me that they wanted a stallion prospect and this horse fitted the orders.

"He will be raced by a large group of clients - including some from overseas."

The trainer believes Lot 119 was a bargain at $1 million.

"I reckon he would have made $2 million last year," Waterhouse said.

"He's a very, very exciting colt."

Waterhouse said there was tough competition for the better prospects at the sale.

"The buyers are here at the sale and the nice horses are tough to get," Waterhouse said.
