The weather played havoc with an Australian Jockey Club race meeting for the second time in three days when an electrical storm hit Warwick Farm on Monday.

It came just two days after the club had to turn away would-be patrons at its showcase Epsom Handicap program when the indoor capacity was reached at a rain-soaked Randwick.

The storm hit Warwick Farm after the fifth race and along with the thunder and lightning came a deluge of rain.

The track was already in the heavy range and when stewards inspected the course proper following the storm they deemed it unfit to continue racing.

"There is too much surface water," said chief steward Ray Murrihy.

"The track is unsafe."

Of the five races that were run there were several impressive performances, including the Tony Sergi-trained With Ice who claimed the Spring Country Cup (1600m), restricted to horses which have contested four country races over the past 12 months.

Sergi, who is based at Queanbeyan near Canberra, has been training for 15 years and has around 15 horses in work.

He is hoping to target the Canberra Cup with the mare, who boasts a victory over Wyong and Newcastle Cups winner Mr Clangtastic five starts ago.

"We're aiming her at the Canberra Cup so we will see what happens," Sergi said.

"I'm not an A-1 trainer but if you get the cattle you can do the job."

Guy Walter also has black-type aspirations for filly Vonrob who lumped 59kg to victory in the Kista Hcp (1400m).

The three-year-old had finished seventh to Little Surfer Girl in the Listed Reginald Allen Quality at her previous start and Monday's victory was her third from eight starts.

"She is getting better and better," Walter said.

"I thought her run in the Reginald Allen was terrific, she was never on the track and finished close up.

"I think there is a stakes race in her."

Walter will weigh up his options for Vonrob but hasn't ruled out a trip to Melbourne this spring.

"There is a mile (1600m) race at Moonee Valley on Cox Plate day and a 1400 metre race on Melbourne Cup day," Walter said.

"She has been up for a while and we also have the option to spell her and bring her back for some of the nice races in the autumn."

Ridden by Chris Munce, Vonrob scored by a length from Drivel with another four lengths to Tee Tee Dancer.

Riding honours for the day went to Nash Rawiller who won two of the five races aboard Therock for Gerald Ryan and Kossack for Chris Waller.
