1 · The problem
Why one good run isn’t enough
Most punters lean hardest on the last start. A horse that won last time looks like the one to follow; a horse that ran fifth looks out of form. But one run on its own can mislead. The field may have been weak. The race may have been run to suit. A strong horse may have been caught wide or held up.
Repeated strength is more meaningful than one isolated good run.
That single idea is the heart of FBX.
2 · The measure
Strength against opposition
Instead of asking only “where did it finish?”, FBX asks a better question: what share of the field did the horse beat?

The second-placed horse in the big field beat more opposition than the winner of the small field. Measured this way, form becomes about how the horse measured up against the horses it actually raced.
3 · The pattern
Four runs, one standout
FBX looks at each horse’s last four starts and measures the share of the field it beat in every one. The most recent run counts the most, then the one before, and so on.

Every runner in today’s race is ranked the same way. FBX only makes a selection when the top-ranked horse stands clearly ahead of the next best. If the race is close, there is no selection.
Only Saturday metropolitan races in NSW and Victoria are considered. The bars show the idea, not the actual weights.
