DARREN BEADMAN returns home intent on adding further international intrigue to the Melbourne spring carnival - the champion jockey is riding Hong Kong raiders at Caulfield on Saturday, reports Craig Young in the Sydney Morning Herald.

His report adds: Now living in racing's mecca, Beadman joins up with fellow Aussie and leading Hong Kong trainer John Moore, and Melbourne majors are on the agenda.

Former British galloper Silver Grecian runs in the Sir Rupert Clarke Stakes, but Beadman is not overly concerned with racing's latest spruik horse, Smart Missile, which is set to start favourite in the group 1.

''A smart horse and a lot went against him when a fine second in the Golden Rose the other day but he is only a three-year-old,'' Beadman said shortly before boarding a plane. ''It is a handicap and he is probably a bit close at the weights to the seasoned type of horses he is meeting here.''

Beadman was due in Melbourne yesterday evening and was keen to partner Silver Grecian and Moore's Caulfield and Melbourne cups contender Mighty High in exercise at Werribee this morning. A last-start winner of the Chater Cup in Hong Kong, Mighty High kicks off his Australian campaign in the Sportingbet Handicap at Caulfield.

The winner of six from 18 starts began his career in France and has been given 61.5 kilograms for tomorrow's 1700 metre event. That's 7kg more than he has been allocated in the Caulfield Cup. ''He is a group 1 winner in Hong Kong over a mile-and-a-half, so we know he has the ability,'' Beadman said. ''He hasn't raced since winning the Chater at the back end of May, but he is a horse that can race forward and he should do so being fresh.

''If he gets a good feel for the track and runs up to the form in Hong Kong, we will be really happy.''
