THE titanic struggle for the Melbourne jockeys' premiership continued yesterday at Betfair Park, with Craig Williams taking the lead from rival Damien Oliver with just two city meetings to go before the end of the season, reports The Age.

It says: Williams is chasing his fourth straight premiership and has been in a seesawing battle with Oliver for the past month. An early double yesterday with wins aboard Hukba for David Hayes and Belle Artiste for Greg Eurell gave Williams a two-win advantage, with only Saturday's Moonee Valley meeting and a midweek meeting at Betfair Park next Wednesday to go before season's end. Oliver endured a frustrating day yesterday, with four placegetters from six rides, including a narrow second on the well-fancied Savquaw in the last race.

Williams and Oliver have a full book of six mounts on Saturday. Williams' best chances appear to be the exciting two-year-old Tan Tat Brav, veteran sprinter In The Shadows, and three-year-old Trustus in the Northerly Cup. Oliver takes him on aboard Finessed in the two-year-old sprint, Goodwood Handicap placegetter Commanding Hope and comeback galloper Field Hunter in the Northerly Cup.
