DARLEY head trainer Peter Snowden and race jockey Kerrin McEvoy declared champion colt Sepoy would be at his top form for Friday night's group 1 Manikato Stakes after another impressive workout at Moonee Valley yesterday, reports The Age.

Its report adds: ''It looks the best Manikato we've had for a while, with some seasoned sprinters at the top of their game, so we need to be better than we've been before and I feel he is,'' Snowden said.

The trainer said that stepping into open company was a risk for such a valuable stud prospect but he is confident the horse is up to the task.

''We're taking a gamble because he's a three-year-old colt with enormous stud value and we've thrown him in the deep end, but you don't do what he's done and not be confident he'll run well,'' he said.

Sepoy, who was having his second look around Moonee Valley, worked over 1000 metres with stablemate Bullbars and the pair ran home their final 400 metres in a smart 23.20 seconds, with Snowden admitting that managing the colt's weight is his toughest task.

''We'd like to work him into it [fitness] but it just frightens you because when you are running that quick a time and hitting the ground at that pace you have to be careful not to cause any damage,'' he said.
