While Sydney has been battling the big wet for almost two weeks, the opposite is the case in Melbourne. Caulfield Track Manager Jason Kerr this morning told Racing Network he has had just 7.2mls of rain in the past week.

Kerr has already rated tomorrow’s track for the Group 1 Memsie Stakes meeting a ‘good 3’, with another fine day and 20-plus degrees forecast in Melbourne.

“I haven’t had to put any irrigation on the track and we’ve had very little rain,” Kerr said.

“The track is great and we’re at a ‘good 3’ now,” Kerr added.

He said the false rail would be out six metres tomorrow, nine metres for the Underwood Stakes meeting on September 20, then in the true position for Sir Rupert Clarke Stakes day eight days later – the Sunday after the AFL Grand Final.

“We’ll race in the true for that meeting, Caulfield Guineas day and the Wednesday meeting, before coming out again for Caulfield Cup day,” Kerr said.
