French stayer, French jockey...Well, it worked last year for Americain in the Melbourne Cup and now it might just work again this year as far as Dunaden is concerned. It looks 99% certain now that Christophe Lemaire will be aboard the well-fancied Dunaden in Tuesday's Melbourne Cup following the rejection of an appeal by Craig Williams against his careless riding suspension. Williams has one final appeal chance on Monday but the word is that it's a very slim chance that he'll beat the ill-timed

Maybe this case holds a warning for top-flight jockeys - don't ride in mickeymouse races a day or two before major carnivals. It's not as if someone like Craig Williams can't afford to miss a meeting or two!

Bad news, too, for Nash Rawiller...He lost an appeal against a Bendigo Cup day suspension which rules him out of the Melbourne Cup ride on the Mick Kent-trained Unusual Suspect. Rawiller copped an eight meeting suspension last Wednesday aboard Star Bender.
