Roll up, roll up for the magical transformation of NSW racing - thanks to those nasty corporate bookies and that ever-nasty Betfair mob. They're the ones who'll be funding racing NSW's glittering makeover of a shaky, battered industry, thanks to the surprise court win on Wednesday. It seems that all sorts of amazing things are going to happen under the super-ambitious Strategic Plan. Its funding was always contingent on the state's racing regulator winning the costly and long-running court battle with corporate betting houses over the contentious racefields legislation. Now there is apparently a treasure chest of $120 million to plough into the NSW thoroughbred industry, which the regulator will tell you employs 50,000 people.

Big questions need to be answered: How much of the great Plan will prove to be pie in the sky? How much money will actually flow down to strappers and other 'lower ranks' in racing? How much better will NSW racing be in 5 years' time? Will the corporate bookies and Betfair cop this latest court defeat or take if to the High Court? Will they desert NSW racing?
