Dual Group One winner Helmet has been beaten just once and the filly who claimed his scalp will be out to repeat the dose at Rosehill on Saturday.

Karuta Queen inflicted Helmet's only defeat in five starts when she outsped him over 1100 metres at his debut in October.

"And she beat him fair and square too," the filly's trainer Neville Layt said.

There has been plenty of water under the bridge since then.

Karuta Queen won the Magic Millions Classic at the Gold Coast in January while Helmet stamped himself one of the most exciting youngsters in training when he took out the Group One double of the Sires' Produce and Champagne Stakes at Randwick in the autumn.

The pair will clash for just the second time in the Group Three Run To The Rose (1200m) on Saturday when their rivals will also include boom colt and favourite Smart Missile and San Domenico Stakes winner Foxwedge.

Karuta Queen finished third to Foxwedge after being pestered in the lead by Defiant Dame who dropped out to run second last in the San Domenico.

"She was only beaten two lengths by Foxwedge the other day and he had the drop on her, he sat off them and had a cosy run," Layt said.

"I think that had my little filly had an easier run in transit she might have gone a bit further but that's racing."

Karuta Queen was an $11 chance with TAB Sportsbet on Thursday behind Smart Missile ($1.85), Helmet ($3.60) and Foxwedge ($3.80).

Layt said she would strip fitter for her first-up run and while he acknowledged the task she faced against the three fancied colts, he wasn't backing away from the challenge.

"You've got to meet them sometime," Layt said.

"If she happened to pinch a break on them at the 300 (metres), you never know.

"I wouldn't run her if I didn't think she'd go well."

While Smart Missile, Helmet and Foxwedge are all due to clash again in the $1 million Golden Rose (1400m) two weeks from Saturday, Karuta Queen will stick to the shortertrips.

The Listed Heritage Stakes (1100m) at Randwick on September 17 will be her next goal.
